Facebook Messenger To Fly Solo – Is WhatsApp In Trouble?

This just in: Facebook claimed that as of now users will no longer need to have a Facebook account if they wish to use the Facebook Messenger.

If you’re a newbie and don’t want or don’t have a Facebook account, you can simply use the IM app by adding in your name as well as your mobile number. Don’t get too excited just yet, because there will be several restrictions imposed on those who do not own a Facebook account.

But, either way this is definitely a big leap of faith for Facebook and it will surely attract more and more users. Right not, Facebook is trying out this new feature and users that reside in Peru, Canada, Venezuela and of course the US can start to use it.

Facebook’s new feature will function just like other applications out there. It will link users via their mobile number, but there is great addition as well. It will permit users to correspond with those who have not shared their mobile number with the Facebook social network. Now you will be able to upload your contact list from your handset right on to the Messenger and keep in touch with them via the app.

David Marcus (in charge of Facebook Messenger) said the following: “It’s kind of an augmented address book. You have all of your address book and then you can search for everyone on Messenger.”

But even if Facebook is planning to release this new feature to the world in the upcoming future, it has not forsaken the people who already have Facebook accounts. They will receive extra perks when corresponding with their friends and verifying their messages.

The Messenger app has expanded tremendously in the past few months, having a current user base of 700 million users. With Facebook’s new game plan set in motion, the number of active users will definitely start booming. This may also mean a red flag for WhatsApp.
