Napalm Christ

Napalm Christ

I don’t say this everyday, probably because I am a pessimistic curmudgeon, but here goes: I am proud to be an Arkansan.

“Why such sudden enthusiasm?” you inquire. Napalm Christ are SHIT. HOT. That’s why.

I’ve been jamming the album they recently unleashed upon the world. A lot, actually. I’ve heard it on vinyl on a good sound system at my local record store and it’s digital format on my headphones. It sounds like the raw, visceral, calamitous metal that you hear and immediately know is legit.

You can tell that some serious effort went into composing the record, but it doesn’t feel overproduced or tame. It’s staggering when you’re getting pummeled by a femur-snapping blast section that unapologetically collapses into a sludge crawl to the Gates of Hell.

As a guitarist, the harmonious blackened guitar runs are exciting to listen to every time they come around in a song. I also enjoy the dual vocals. It really drives the urgency of the depressing subject matter into the listener’s noggin.

Did I mention they are from Little Rock, Arkansas? NICE.

I got to see them last week when they opened for Goatwhore here at the Rev Room. They sounded even better live. Go see them live.

If you can’t make it all the way to this great state, satisfy your needs for disgusting, Southern, blackened sludge in the nastiest way by getting your hands on a download or some Napalm Christ vinyl.
